Teoretiskt kan PortableGL anv\u00e4ndas i alla applikationer som tar texturer eller framebuffer som indata. Koden \u00e4r strukturerad som en enda headerfil och distribueras under MIT-licensen.      <\/p>\n<p>Projektet har definierat m\u00e5l som portabilitet, \u00f6verensst\u00e4mmelse med OpenGL API, anv\u00e4ndarv\u00e4nlighet, enkel kod och h\u00f6g prestanda. Bland till\u00e4mpningsomr\u00e5den n\u00e4mns utbildning i koncepten f\u00f6r grafiska API:er, anv\u00e4ndning f\u00f6r arbete med 3D-grafik p\u00e5 system utan GPU, samt integration av OpenGL-st\u00f6d i specifika operativsystem d\u00e4r Mesa3D-paketet inte har portats.
