En utm\u00e4rkande egenskap hos spr\u00e5ket \u00e4r att all data, inklusive sj\u00e4lva programmets kod, kan representeras som str\u00e4ngar, vilket ger stora m\u00f6jligheter f\u00f6r metaprogrammering och skapande av till\u00e4gg.<\/p>\n<p>I den nya utg\u00e5van finns det inkompatibla f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar j\u00e4mf\u00f6rt med versionerna 8.x, s\u00e5 det beslutades att \u00f6ka huvudversionsnumret:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vid ber\u00e4kning av namn anv\u00e4nds nu endast det aktuella namnutrymmet (namespace) och inte det globala;<\/li>\n<li>Kodningsproblem i in- och utmatningsfunktioner kastar nu som standard ett fel;<\/li>\n<li>Tilde (~) i filv\u00e4gar pekar inte l\u00e4ngre p\u00e5 anv\u00e4ndarens hemkatalog;<\/li>\n<li>Variabeln tcl_precision p\u00e5verkar inte l\u00e4ngre formatet f\u00f6r siffror.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bland \u00e4ndringarna finns ocks\u00e5:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>St\u00f6d f\u00f6r variabler st\u00f6rre \u00e4n 2 gigabyte har lagts till;<\/li>\n<li>Unicode-funktionaliteten har f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttrats;<\/li>\n<li>St\u00f6d f\u00f6r att f\u00e5 \u00e5tkomst till inneh\u00e5llet i ZIP-filer som om det vore ett filsystem;<\/li>\n<li>Multiplexing IO st\u00f6der nu epoll (i Linux) och kqueue (i BSD).
