I Fedora Linux 43 planerar man att endast till\u00e5ta anv\u00e4ndning av GPT (GUID Partition Table) partitionering p\u00e5 x86-system med UEFI. \u00c4ndringen har \u00e4nnu inte diskuterats av FESCo (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee), som ansvarar f\u00f6r den tekniska utvecklingen av Fedora-distributionen. Om f\u00f6rslaget antas kommer st\u00f6d f\u00f6r installation av Fedora i UEFI-l\u00e4ge p\u00e5 diskar med MBR (Master Boot Record) partitionering att upph\u00f6ra p\u00e5 x86-system, men f\u00f6rbli p\u00e5 ARM- och RISC-V-system. <\/p>\n

Som sk\u00e4l f\u00f6r att upph\u00f6ra med MBR n\u00e4mns den l\u00e5ga tillf\u00f6rlitligheten f\u00f6r bootning i s\u00e5dana konfigurationer, inkonsekvent MBR-st\u00f6d i firmware och bristen p\u00e5 adekvat testning i Fedora (i dokumentationen f\u00f6r GRUB2 rekommenderas att anv\u00e4nda GPT f\u00f6r UEFI). Det antas att genom att l\u00e4mna endast GPT-st\u00f6d i Anaconda-installat\u00f6ren p\u00e5 x86-system, kan man undvika krascher under bootning orsakade av fel med efibootmgr. Att upph\u00f6ra med MBR-st\u00f6d kommer ocks\u00e5 att minska belastningen p\u00e5 de som supportar anv\u00e4ndare, f\u00f6renkla underh\u00e5ll och testning. <\/p>\n

St\u00f6det f\u00f6r MBR med UEFI-l\u00e4ge lades ursprungligen till Fedora 2019 f\u00f6r att vara kompatibel med molnplattformar som AWS som inte st\u00f6der GPT.
