Den anv\u00e4nds f\u00f6r att implementera programvaru-ATSer, r\u00f6stkommunikationssystem, VoIP-gateways, organisera IVR-system (r\u00f6stmenyer), r\u00f6stbrevl\u00e5dor, telefonkonferenser och callcenter. K\u00e4llkoden f\u00f6r projektet \u00e4r skriven i C och tillg\u00e4nglig under GPLv2-licensen. <\/p>\n<p>Asterisk 24 har klassificerats som en version med l\u00e5ngsiktigt st\u00f6d (LTS), vilket inneb\u00e4r att uppdateringar kommer att sl\u00e4ppas under fem \u00e5r i st\u00e4llet f\u00f6r de vanliga tv\u00e5 \u00e5ren f\u00f6r normala versioner. St\u00f6det f\u00f6r den tidigare LTS-versionen Asterisk 22 kommer att p\u00e5g\u00e5 till oktober 2029, medan st\u00f6det f\u00f6r version 20 kommer att p\u00e5g\u00e5 till oktober 2027.
