Den 12 januari tillk\u00e4nnagav f\u00f6retaget Open Source Security, k\u00e4nt f\u00f6r sin utveckling grsecurity<\/a>, tillk\u00e4nnagav sponsring av utvecklingen av front-end f\u00f6r GCC-kompilatorn f\u00f6r st\u00f6d av programmeringsspr\u00e5ket Rust — gccrs.<\/p>\n

Gccrs utvecklades ursprungligen parallellt med den ursprungliga Rustc-kompilatorn, men p\u00e5 grund av avsaknaden av specifikationer f\u00f6r spr\u00e5ket och frekventa bak\u00e5tkompatibilitetsbrott i de tidiga utvecklingsfaserna avbr\u00f6ts utvecklingen tillf\u00e4lligt och \u00e5terupptogs f\u00f6rst efter lanseringen av Rust 1.0.<\/p>\n

Open Source Security motiverar sitt deltagande med m\u00f6jliga framtida till\u00e4gg av kod skriven i Rust i Linux-k\u00e4rnan och det faktum att k\u00e4rnan oftast kompileras av gcc. Dessutom kan program i flera spr\u00e5k samtidig ha s\u00e5rbarheter p\u00e5 grund av denna omst\u00e4ndighet (se Exploiting Mixed Binaries<\/a>), vilka inte skulle finnas i program skrivna enbart i C eller C++.<\/p>\n
