Lumina 1.6.2 desktop release

The release of the Lumina 1.6.2 desktop environment, developed after the termination of TrueOS development as part of the Trident project (desktop distribution of Void Linux), has been published. The environment components are written using the Qt5 library (without using QML). Lumina takes a classic approach to organizing the user environment. The structure includes a desktop, an application bar, a session manager, an application menu, an environment settings system, a task manager, a system tray, a virtual desktop system. The project code is written in C++ and distributed under the BSD license.

Fluxbox is used as a window manager. The project also develops its own Insight file manager, which has such features as tab support for simultaneous work with several directories, accumulation of links to favorite directories in the bookmarks section, the presence of a built-in multimedia player and photo viewer with slideshow support, tools for managing ZFS snapshots, support for connecting external plugins-handlers.

Among the changes in the new release:

  • Disabled the Lumina-checkpass utility, which is designed to check the correctness of entering passwords in applications such as a screen saver. This utility is being developed for Lumina 2.0, is not yet ready, and was included in version 1.6.1 by mistake.
  • In the Lumina-FM file manager, the option to open the selected file with root rights has been returned.
  • Ported code from PC-BSD/TrueOS/Project-Trident to qsudo, a component for giving graphical applications access to sudo functionality to run tasks with elevated privileges.
  • The ability to customize the application bar icon, similar to the start menu icon, is provided.
  • Fixed a bug preventing the Fluxbox window theme from being activated in Lumina-Config.
  • Increased the initial size of the Lumina-Config window.
  • Added build scripts for Fedora, Slackware and Gentoo Linux.
