Patrick Volkerding announced the formation of the third and final release candidate for the Slackware 15.0 distribution, which has reached the stage of freezing 99% of packages before release. An installation image of 3.4 GB (x86_64) in size has been prepared for download, as well as a shortened assembly for launching in Live mode.
The final changes before the freeze include a kernel update. Linux up to version 5.15.14 (being considered for inclusion in the 5.15.15 release), KDE Plasma 5.23.5, KDE Gear 21.12.1, KDE Frameworks 5.90, eudev 3.2.11, vala 0.54.6, iproute2 5.16.0, firefox 91.5, thunderbird 91.5.0, sqlite 3.37.2, mercurial 6.0.1, pipewire 0.3.43, pulseaudio 15.0, mdadm 4.2, mesa 21.3.3, wpa_supplicant 2.9, xorg-server 1.20.14, gimp 2.10.30, gtk 3.24, freetype 2.11.1.
Slackware has been in development since 1993 and is the oldest of the currently existing distributions.
