Adobe bought Oculus Medium: draw in virtual space

On Friday, Adobe reportedthat she had negotiated the purchase of the Oculus Medium graphics package. The Oculus Medium toolkit for VR immersive CG artists was developed by Facebook's Oculus division in 2016. It was originally a package for creating 3D models and spatial object textures for Oculus Rift VR headsets. Adobe is committed to making the Oculus Medium an all-in-one tool for immersive 3D artists. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Going forward, Adobe intends to use Medium to build a portfolio of VR and 3D graphics tools for creatives and professionals. The new tool complements Adobe's existing VR immersive painting suites, including Photoshop, Dimension, After Effects, Substance, and Aero. What's more, within Adobe, former Allegorithmic's Substance development team and the new Oculus Medium team will be collaborating on Adobe's next generation of 3D tools, promising user-friendly and advanced tools for immersive 3D modeling and painting.

By the way, the Substance toolkit and the Allegorithmic company were acquired by Adobe relatively recently - in January of this year. Allegorithmic CEO Sebastien Deguy has joined Adobe as the company's new VP of 3D and Immersive, and will effectively oversee the continued development of Medium's tools as well.
