Amazon sells unlicensed cell phone signal boosters

Amazon's online store was recently discovered to be selling unlicensed items. According to Wired, the online retailer sells cellular signal boosters that have not been licensed by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) (such as those from MingColl, Phonelex and Subroad). Some of them have been labeled as Amazon's Choice. These devices are not only unlikely to pass the registration process with operators, but also cause network failures. Some of the buyers received inquiries from operators after their amplifiers caused interference at base stations.

All six sellers who, as the investigation found, were selling unlicensed amplifiers, are located in China. In order to give the appearance of the popularity of the product, they used fake reviews.

An Amazon spokesperson said sellers were required to "comply with all relevant laws and regulations" when listing items for sale, and the company removed some of the listings after Wired contacted the online store.

However, some of the proposed devices are still on the list of proposals, despite notifications. In response to the warning, Amazon only said that its team members are "continually reviewing and improving" the policies and methods used to ensure product compliance with existing regulations.
