AMD is preparing embedded processors similar to the chips of current consoles

Judging by the latest data, AMD may introduce not only Ryzen 3000 processors on the Zen 2 architecture in the near future, but also several new chips on an older architecture. A well-known source of leaks with the pseudonym Tum Apisak found mentions of AMD RX-3, RX-8125, and A8120-9 processors in the 9820DMark database.

The 3DMark test determined that the AMD RX-8125 and RX-8120 processors are single-chip platforms (SoC) of the Cato family. There was no previous mention of this family. New items are embedded solutions, and, presumably, they will be based on a kind of "cat" architecture, like Jaguar (English - jaguar). The latter, recall, is the architecture of the cores in the platforms that underlie the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.

The fact that the AMD RX-8125 and RX-8120 processors are "relatives" of console chips is partly indicated by their configuration. According to 3DMark, the new products have eight physical cores that do not support multithreading. The clock frequency of the younger RX-8120 was only 1700/1796 MHz, while the RX-8125 model operates at 2300/2395 MHz. Note that the Xbox One and One X chips also have eight cores with frequencies of 1,75 and 2,3 GHz, respectively. Unfortunately, nothing is known about the integrated graphics of the new embedded SoCs, but most likely it is and refers to the Radeon R7 or R5 series.

Unlike the embedded solutions described above, the AMD A9-9820 processor is likely to be aimed at more traditional desktop systems. It also has eight cores without multi-threading. The frequencies here are also 2300/2395 MHz. According to the test, there is also an integrated Radeon RX 350 graphics. Most likely, this is the same third-generation GCN graphics, that is, a renamed Radeon R7 or R5.

And in the end, we note that the RX-8120 (RE8120FEG84HU) and A9-9820 (RE8125FEG84HU) processors are mentioned not only in the 3DMark database, but also on the website of Avnet, which is one of the world's largest providers of embedded solutions. Note that Avnet currently has over a hundred AMD A9-9820 processors in stock, so their official announcement is just around the corner.
