Android shows a delay in Gmail notifications, possibly due to a power saver feature

Push notifications are an integral part of modern smartphones. Thanks to them, for example, people are promptly informed about emails, news, etc. arriving in their mail. But it seems that currently there is a certain problem associated with the delay in the output of notifications from the Gmail service on devices running Android.

Android shows a delay in Gmail notifications, possibly due to a power saver feature

One Reddit user noticed that notifications from Gmail on his smartphone were arriving with delays. He searched the device's logs to find out why. It turned out that Android β€œsees” messages arriving in the mail service, but for some reason does not display instant notifications about it on the device screen.

Other Reddit users who encountered a similar problem joined the discussion on this issue. As a result, they came to the conclusion that the reason for late notifications about the receipt of letters in Gmail may be the Doze function, which first appeared in Android Marshmallow and is designed to save battery power.

It's impossible to say with complete certainty, but it seems that the Doze function is what prevents Android from sending instant push notifications to the Gmail service until some other event occurs on the system. For example, the user who first noticed the problem claims that notifications from Gmail only arrive after the smartphone is unlocked.

The user published detailed data from his smartphone’s logs on the Internet, and the number of people facing this problem is growing. Google representatives have not yet given official comments.
