Yacht Club Games and Nitrome have announced Shovel Knight Dig, a new game in the Shovel Knight series.
Five years after the release of the original Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games and Nitrome will tell a new story of Shovel Knight and his nemesis, Storm Knight. In Shovel Knight Dig, players will go underground, where they will dig passages for powerful items and upgrades. The developers promise encounters with new knights, enemies and other characters along the way, and the story will be told with the humor inherent in Shovel Knight.
Each playthrough will be different. As described, the levels are carefully crafted and then stitched together using special generation techniques to achieve a high replay potential. Visually, Shovel Knight Dig also looks different: smooth animation, scaling and parallax await players.
Shovel Knight Dig has been in development for over a year. The platforms on which the game will be released have not been officially announced, but the PlayStation 4 version is mentioned on the PlayStation Blog, and a demo for the Nintendo Switch will be brought to PAX West 2019 (takes place from August 30 to September 2 in Seattle). A release date for the project has yet to be revealed.
