What we should arrange for DDoS: the intensity of attacks has increased dramatically

A study conducted by Kaspersky Lab suggests that the intensity of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks has increased dramatically in the first quarter of this year.

In particular, the number of DDoS attacks in January-March increased by 84% compared to the last quarter of 2018. Moreover, such attacks have become much longer: the average duration has increased by 4,21 times.

Experts also note that the organizers of DDoS attacks are improving their techniques, which leads to the complication of such cyber campaigns.

China remains the leader in the number of outgoing attacks. The largest number of botnets used to organize attacks is located on the territory of the United States.

The maximum number of DDoS attacks in the first quarter was recorded in the second half of March. January was the quietest month. During the week, Saturday became the most dangerous day in terms of DDoS attacks, while Sunday remains the calmest.

β€œThe DDoS market is changing. The sites for the sale of tools and services for their implementation, closed by law enforcement agencies, are being replaced by new ones. Attacks have become much longer, and many organizations have implemented only basic countermeasures, which in this situation are not enough. It's hard to say if DDoS attacks will continue to rise, but getting easier, it looks like they won't. We advise organizations to prepare to repel advanced DDoS attacks,” experts say.
