The Taiwanese company CMC Magnetics has further strengthened its own position as a world leader in the production of optical disks for data storage. The other day, CMC Magnetics, together with the Japanese company Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC), released , announcing an agreement reached to buy Mitsubishi Chemical Media's Verbatim division. The transaction is valued at $32 million. The completion of the transaction and the transfer of ownership will occur before the end of 2019.

CMC Magnetics will acquire the rights to Verbatim trademarks, patents, manufacturing techniques and supply chains (sales). The Taiwanese manufacturer will also take over four Verbatim divisions, one each in the US, Europe, Australia and Hong Kong. This is not the first such move by CMC Magnetics to take over former leaders in the optical disc market. In 2015 Taiwanese company business and other assets of optical media pioneer Taiyo Yuden.
The Taiwanese manufacturer has been closely cooperating with Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation since the late 90s of the last century. In 1998, CMC Magnetics bought Verbatim's floppy and tape technology and two factories (in California and Mexico). In 1999, CMC Magnetics and Mitsubishi Chemical (Verbatim) merged into a strategic alliance, after which the Taiwanese company began to produce optical discs using Japanese equipment under the Verbatim and Mitsubishi brands.

We add that today Verbatim's business is not only optical discs, but also SSDs and numerous flash drives. All these things CMC Magnetics will continue to produce under a well-known brand. The company hopes that the takeover of Verbatim's production will help increase revenue and profits. Now CMC Magnetics earns around $22 million per month. Revenue dynamics is not stable. The world-famous Verbatim brand can make up for this.
