The Manjaro distribution will be developed by a commercial company

Founders of the Manjaro Project announced the on the creation of a commercial company Manjaro GmbH & Co, which will henceforth oversee the development of the distribution and own the trademark. At the same time, the distribution will remain focused on the community and will develop with its participation - the project will continue to exist in its current form, retaining all its properties and processes that were before the company was created.

The company will provide an opportunity to employ the key developers of the project, who will now deal with the distribution kit not in their free time, but on a full-time basis. In addition to accelerating the development of the distribution, one of the positive aspects of the creation of the company is also mentioned more prompt delivery of updates with the elimination of vulnerabilities and more efficient response to user needs.

Financing will be organized through the conduct of commercial activities, the directions of which are still being studied. At the first stage, the curator of Manjaro GmbH & Co was the company BlueSystems, which helps the developers of Manjaro to establish business processes and become self-financing. The new company currently employs two employees (Philip MΓΌller and Bernhard Landauer). The main goals at first will be the modernization of the infrastructure and bringing the project in line with the requirements for a professional distribution.

Note that the distribution Manjaro Linux, based on Arch Linux, is aimed at novice users and is notable for having a simplified and user-friendly installation process, support for automatic detection of hardware and installation of the necessary drivers for its operation. The user is offered a choice of graphical environments KDE, GNOME and Xfce. Repositories are managed using BoxIt's own toolkit, designed in the image of Git. The repository is maintained on the principle of continuous inclusion of updates (rolling), but new versions go through an additional stage of stabilization. In addition to its own repository, there is support for using AUR repository (Arch User Repository).
