Facebook and Ray-Ban are developing AR glasses codenamed "Orion"

For the past few years, Facebook has been developing augmented reality glasses. The project is being implemented by specialists from the engineering division of Facebook Reality Labs. According to available data, during the development process, Facebook engineers encountered some difficulties, to resolve which a partnership agreement was signed with Luxottica, the owner of the Ray-Ban brand.

According to network sources, Facebook expects that the companies' joint activities will allow them to release AR glasses to the consumer market between 2023 and 2025. The product in question is codenamed “Orion”. It is a kind of replacement for a smartphone, since it allows you to receive calls, is able to display information on the display and can broadcast to social networks online.

It was previously reported that Facebook is developing a voice assistant with artificial intelligence. It is also expected to be integrated into AR glasses, allowing the user to use voice commands. Hundreds of Facebook employees are involved in the development of the Orion project, who are still trying to make the device small enough to attract the attention of potential buyers.

Considering that Facebook has already spent years developing augmented reality glasses without achieving any significant progress, there is no guarantee that the Orion project will be implemented on time. We also cannot exclude the possibility that Facebook will simply refuse to launch mass production of this device. According to rumors, CEO Mark Zuckerberg, interested in creating AR glasses, asked the head of the company's hardware division, Andrew Bosworth, to make the Orion project a priority.
