Google Stadia will allow publishers to offer their own subscriptions

Game streaming service manager Google Stadia Phil Harrison announced that publishers will be able to offer users their own subscriptions to games within the platform. In an interview, he stressed that Google will support publishers who not only decide to launch their own offerings, but also start developing them "in a relatively short timeframe."

Phil Harrison did not specify which companies would be able to offer subscription within the Stadia platform, noting that these would be "publishers with large catalogs and significant projects." One likely candidate is Electronic Arts, which already offers EA Access and Origin Access subscription services for Xbox One and PC, respectively. Representatives of Electronic Arts have confirmed that the company intends to offer its own games on the Stadia platform, although the names of any specific projects have not yet been announced.

Note that the introduction of publisher-specific game subscriptions gives users more options to pay for Stadia. However, this approach can significantly complicate the pricing for the use of a streaming gaming service. Previously, it was assumed that users would be able to access an unlimited number of games for a single monthly payment. Now it's clear that Google plans to charge a separate individual fee for games in addition to the monthly subscription to the service itself.
