The Yandex company continues to expand the capabilities of Alice, its intelligent voice assistant, which lives inside various devices and is also included in a number of applications.
This time, the improvements affected the Alice camera, which is available in mobile applications with a voice assistant: Yandex, Browser and Launcher. Now, for example, a smart assistant is able to scan documents and read aloud the text in photos.
Using the application with a voice assistant, you can scan any document. To do this, just say βAlice, make a scanβ and place the original in front of the camera lens. The assistant will scan the document, carefully cut along the contour and offer to save it to your smartphone.
When it is not possible to make out the text - for example, on the instructions for a medicine or a new gadget - you can ask "Alice" to read it out. It is enough to say βAlice, read the text in the pictureβ and take a picture. The assistant will recognize the text using computer vision, and then speak it. This text can be quickly copied, translated from Russian into English and vice versa.
In addition, Alice now recognizes clothing better. If, say, you take a picture of a person, the camera will determine what he is wearing and find similar things on the Market - moreover, for each item of clothing separately.
