Matrox Switches to NVIDIA GPUs

More than five years ago, the Canadian company Matrox announced the transition to the use of AMD graphics processors for their specialized video cards. Now a new stage in the history of the brand begins: a collaboration with NVIDIA has been announced, within which Matrox will use custom versions of Quadro for the embedded segment.

Matrox Switches to NVIDIA GPUs

Founded in 1976, Matrox Graphics has long relied on graphics processors of its own design, and even successfully performed in the gaming segment in the nineties of the last century. Gradually, the name Matrox was less and less mentioned in the statistics of analytical agencies on the discrete graphics market, and by September 2014 the company voiced intentions to switch to cooperation with AMD, which began to supply the Canadian partner with its graphics processors.

Barely lasting five years, Matrox announced about readiness to start cooperation with NVIDIA. According to representatives of the Canadian company, it will use the Quadro family of graphics processors, and not conventional, but originally designed for embedded systems, taking into account the wishes of a particular customer. As always, off-the-shelf Matrox graphics cards based on NVIDIA solutions will be used to connect to the video walls.

Matrox does not provide many details about the characteristics of the "new wave" graphics cards. They will occupy the space of a single expansion slot, and up to four synchronized monitors with support for 4K resolution can be connected to the outputs on the rear panel. By combining four of these boards in one system, you can create a video wall of 16 displays. As before, its work will be controlled by Matrox PowerDesk proprietary software, which was also used for products based on AMD components.
