MegaFon will speed up the Internet of Things five times

MegaFon announced the introduction of a new technology that will fivefold increase the speed of data transfer in the Internet of Things (IoT) network.

We are talking about using the NB-IoT Cat-NB2 standard. Let us recall that NB-IoT (Narrow-band IoT) is a platform for narrow-band Internet of things. The NB-IoT signal has an increased propagation range, and the network capacity allows you to connect a huge number of different devices to one base station. The technology is well suited for connecting IoT devices with low power consumption and low data transfer rates. This could be, say, various sensors, counters, etc.

The NB-IoT Cat-NB2 standard provides information transfer rates of up to 130 Kbps, which is five times faster than the current NB-IoT generation. Another benefit is increased energy efficiency.

MediaTek took part in the implementation of the new project. It is noted that the transition to NB-IoT Cat-NB2 will allow companies and enterprises to reduce the cost of creating an Internet of Things infrastructure: instead of several transmitters, only one can be used.

MegaFon is introducing support for NB-IoT Cat-NB2 in 59 regions of Russia. The technology is expected to be in demand in the fields of industry, energy, housing and communal services, etc.
