Frankfurt International Motor Show to close in 2021

After 70 years, the Frankfurt International Motor Show, an annual showcase for the latest in the automotive industry, is ending. The German Automotive Industry Association (Verband der Automobilindustrie, VDA), the organizer of the show, has announced that Frankfurt will not host car shows from 2021.

Car dealerships are in crisis. Declining attendance is causing many automakers to question the merits of elaborate screenings, noisy press conferences, and the financial investment associated with showings. More and more companies refuse to participate in car dealerships.

The Automobile Association said that seven cities in Germany - Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, Munich and Stuttgart - have submitted interesting ideas about how they will host auto shows.

The VDA is counting on Berlin, Munich and Hamburg, and a decision on which city will host the International Motor Show in 2021 will be made in the next few weeks as negotiations continue with each of them.
