Microsoft has published a repository with its modifications for the Linux kernel

Microsoft company ΠΎΠΏΡƒΠ±Π»ΠΈΠΊΠΎΠ²Π°Π»Π° all changes and additions to the Linux kernel used in the kernel supplied for the WSL 2 subsystem (Windows Subsystem for Linux v2). WSL Second Edition is different delivery of a full-fledged Linux kernel, instead of an emulator on the fly, translating Linux system calls into Windows system calls. The availability of sources allows enthusiasts, if they wish, to create their own builds of the Linux kernel for WSL2, taking into account the nuances of this platform.

The Linux kernel shipped with WSL2 is based on release 4.19, which runs in a Windows environment using a virtual machine already in use in Azure. Updates for the Linux kernel are delivered through the Windows Update mechanism and tested on Microsoft's continuous integration infrastructure. The prepared patches include optimizations to reduce kernel startup time, reduce memory consumption, and keep the minimum required set of drivers and subsystems in the kernel.

In addition, Microsoft applied to be included in the closed linux-distros mailing list, which publishes information about new vulnerabilities at an early stage of their discovery, allowing distributions to prepare to fix problems before public disclosure. Access to the mailing list is required by Microsoft to receive information about new vulnerabilities affecting distribution-like builds such as Azure Sphere, Windows Subsystem for Linux v2, and Azure HDInsight that are not based on existing distributions. As a guarantor ready to speak Greg Kroah-Hartman, responsible for maintaining the kernel stable branch.
The decision to grant access has not yet been made.
