A series of Microsoft disasters in the mobile market led to the corporation's abandonment of its own operating systems and the transition to a cross-platform application strategy, which began with rather incidental statements by Microsoft executives about their iPhone and Android smartphones. But, as time has shown, this concept has justified itself: for example, the Microsoft Word application has already been installed a billion times on Android.
Word is the most popular application in the Microsoft Office package for Android. And in May 2018, the number of installations was two less. It is worth noting that we are talking about the total number of installations since the appearance of the application in the Google Play store, and not the current number of running programs. So it is wrong to conclude that every second Android smartphone owner (about 2 billion in total) is a Microsoft Word user.
Promotion on Android is also helped by Microsoft's partnership agreements, for example, with Samsung to pre-install software on its smartphones. But still, to a greater extent, the merit belongs to the developers themselves: more than 3,5 million users have rated Word, and it turned out to be quite high - 4,5 points out of 5 possible.
The popularity of Word on iPad and Android tablets is far less impressive, given that editing tools are not available there outside of a paid Office 365 subscription.
