Mobile Sonic at the Olympic Games is a declaration of love for Tokyo by the authors

For those of you who think there's too much Mario at the Olympics, the release of Sonic at the Olympic Games for mobile platforms should do some balance. During the Tokyo Game Show 2019, Sega released a trailer for the game. As in the case with analogue on Nintendo Switch, this game will feature classic characters from the Sonic universe participating in a range of sports disciplines. The developers pay special attention to the game, because this time the Olympic Games are held in Sega's home country - Japan.

DualShockers journalists got the opportunity to review the mobile game, compare it with the Switch version, and speak with Sonic Team veterans - Vice President of Product Development Takashi Iizuka (Takashi Iizuka) and creative producer Eigo Kasahara (Eigo Kasahara). During the conversation, they said that the game will focus on Tokyo: in particular, in the story mode, a map of the capital of Japan will be displayed, on which popular tourist places are marked, there will also be dialogues and various little things related to Tokyo.

The journalists were given to try out the 100-meter hurdles: Sonic the hedgehog ran automatically, and the player needed to maintain a sense of speed and momentum. According to the developers, experienced players will be able to increase the speed. Touch controls are used, of course, and the graphics promise to be quite impressive for a mobile game.

Iizuka and Kasahara hope this game will help share their love of Tokyo with the rest of the world, especially for regions where the Switch version may not be available. The game, according to the trailer, will also support online multiplayer matches and EX events - apparently this is the equivalent of retro events from the Switch version.

Sonic at the Olympic Games will be released on Android and iOS in spring 2020. On Android, the game will require Android OS 5.0 or higher (perhaps even Android 4.4) and OpenGL ES 2.0. Apple platforms support iPhone 5s and above. Requires at least 1 GB of free storage space.
