The International Data Corporation (IDC) has made a forecast for the global market for augmented (AR) and virtual (VR) reality headsets for the coming years.
It is expected that this year the costs in the relevant area will be at the level of $16,8 billion. By 2023, the market volume may increase by almost an order of magnitude - up to $160 billion.
Thus, IDC analysts believe in the period from 2019 to 2023. the CAGR, or compound annual growth rate, will be an impressive 78,3%.
If we consider only the consumer segment of AR / VR (excluding the commercial sector), then growth in it will not be so fast: the CAGR value is projected at 52,2%.
It is noted that hardware solutions, that is, the actual augmented and virtual reality headsets, will account for more than half of the total costs. The rest of the costs will be for related software and services.
Analysts also say that demand for augmented reality devices is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years. As a result, in 2023 they may outsell virtual reality helmets.
