After four months of development, the December update to KDE Gear 25.12, a consolidated update for KDE applications developed by the KDE project, has been released. The suite includes releases of 249 programs, libraries, and plugins. Information about the availability of live builds with new application releases can be found on this page. New versions of individual applications can be downloaded from Flathub and SnapCraft.
The most notable changes:
- The Dolphin file manager now allows you to temporarily hide directories and files using the context menu, without having to move them to the trash.
- Kate, a text editor for developers, has improved Git support and now displays the latest activity in the branch list. The ability to bracket content when pasting into the terminal via the clipboard has been added. The quick-open dialog, accessed via the β‘ button in the upper right corner, now allows you to jump to a specific position in a file after opening it (for example, to move the cursor to the 10th character on line 15, add ":15:10" after entering the filename).
- The Photos (Koko) image viewer has expanded editing capabilities and added a new photo cropping tool.
Photos for mobile and touchscreens now features enhanced gesture controls, including pinch-to-zoom, swipe-to-swipe, and swiping left or right to switch to the next or previous image. A slideshow mode has been added to the mobile version.
- Konqueror, a web browser/file manager hybrid, now has the ability to export content as high-resolution PDF files.

- A button for quickly enabling/disabling the ad blocker has been added to the Falkon web browser.

- The Neochat messaging app, which uses the Matrix protocol, now has a page in the configurator with information about available keyboard shortcuts. Support for Matrix extensions, such as Jitsi for video conferencing, has been improved (the conference start button now displays the conference status and is activated only if the user has permission to create conferences).

- Itinerary's travel assistant has been updated with new features for automatically processing ticket information from various rail companies.

While traveling, in addition to showing your location on the map, the app now displays your altitude. A built-in currency converter has been added.

- Kjournald, a front-end for navigating systemd-journald logs, now supports loading custom unit files.
