Paint and WordPad become optional in Windows 10 20H1

The upcoming build of Windows 10 20H1, also known as version 2004, will have many new features upon release. And one of the innovations will optional status of Paint and WordPad. These two programs are among the oldest and, apparently, they can be installed or removed independently, like any other application.

Testing in build 19041, which is rumored to be a release candidate, has shown that this works. At the same time, both programs are included in the assembly by default, although they can be removed and cleaned from the "Start" and the list of applications. Similar has already been done for Windows Media Player.

As the source notes, removing Paint and WordPad requires a system restart. After that, both programs will disappear from the "Start" and the list of installed applications. It is not yet known whether similar operations will be performed in the future for other basic programs, such as Notepad, Photos, and so on. However, given that many people install alternative applications immediately after installing the system, this looks logical.

Recall that earlier in Paint announced new features for drawing objects with the mouse. And although it is difficult to imagine a scenario where this would be needed, it is encouraging that the company does not forget about the program.

Note that previously reported advertising in WordPad. It is not yet clear whether it will appear in the release and whether this is why Redmond decided to make the application optional. In any case, the version of Windows that has been imaged over the years is gradually changing, albeit at the expense of borrowing ideas from competitors.
