Platinum Games would still like to return to Scalebound

Recently Platinum Games and the Chinese company Tencent announced the about partnership to finance new studio projects. According to the developer, he wants to create and self-publish his own games on multiple platforms in the coming years. Due to this, many are wondering if there is a possibility of bringing back Scalebound. But the intellectual property belongs to Microsoft, so this is not possible at the moment.

“And again, this is a good question! But it was an intellectual property that was 100% owned by Microsoft,” Inaba said after being asked about the possibility of reviving Scalebound. “No matter what happens to this project, we won’t be able to do anything with it until Microsoft allows us.” But this is a game that we fell in love with and continue to love. If such an opportunity arises, we will return to it with pleasure.”

Scalebound was officially announced in 2014 on Xbox One. At first the game was planned to be released in 2016, but later the release was postponed until 2017 and declared PC version. In January 2017, after several years of development, it was canceled by reason of non-compliance with the expected level of quality. After this, the community turned against Microsoft, but according to Platinum Games, the publisher was not the only one to blame. “Watching fans get mad at Microsoft for canceling it wasn’t easy for us,” сказал he in an interview with VGC. “Because the reality is that when any game in development fails, it's because both sides failed.”
