iOS users may be left without Google Stadia and Microsoft Project xCloud

As you know, this month Google will tell more about the launch date and conditions of its gaming service Stadia, and Project xCloud from Microsoft will launch in 2020. But it is possible that iOS users will be left without access to them. The reason for this was fresh update of recommendations for applications hosted in the App Store.

And although these are called recommendations, in fact, they are a set of strict rules, non-compliance with which is punishable by removal of the application from the store. And it looks like Google and Microsoft may have some problems.

The bottom line is that section 4.2.7 of the updated list of recommendations states that the store can host programs that allow you to stream gaming videos from consoles owned by the user to iOS devices. In this case, we are talking strictly about devices that are in the direct possession of the user. No cloud services or anything like that.

And this is the root of the problem. Microsoft and Google want to process games themselves and broadcast video streams to users. But this contradicts the requirements that Apple places on applications. It is not yet clear how the companies plan to deal with this, but if Cupertino persists, client applications of the Stadia and xCloud services will simply not be allowed in the App Store.

According to journalists from specialized publications, this is an attempt by Apple to create a favorable environment for its own Arcade service, although this is still just speculation.
