Sales of smartphones with support for wireless charging in Russia amounted to 2,2 million units in 2018, which is 48% more than a year earlier. In money terms, the volume of this segment grew by 131% to 130 billion rubles, Svyaznoy-Euroset experts said.
M.Video-Eldorado counted the sale of 2,2 million smartphones that work with wireless chargers, worth 135 billion rubles. The share of such devices in physical terms was 8% against 5% in 2017, Vedomosti writes.
βThe explosive growth in sales of smartphones with this function is due to the fact that today manufacturers equip all their flagship models with technological stuffing for wireless power transmission,β said David Borzilov, Vice President for Sales at Svyaznoy-Euroset.
Valeria Andreeva, a representative of M.Video-Eldorado, noted that if in 2017 there were about 10 models of smartphones with support for wireless charging on the Russian market, then in 2018 there were already 30. The technology is only available in flagship devices, for example, in the iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S7, did not allow earlier to talk about the mass market of such devices, she emphasizes.
Apple accounted for the most sales of smartphones with wireless charging support: the share of iPhone in this category in the Russian market reached 66% last year. The second place is occupied by Samsung products (30%), the third β by Huawei (3%).
