The developers of the OpenMandriva project have presented a preliminary release of a new edition of the OpenMandriva Lx ROME distribution kit, which uses a model of continuous update delivery (rolling releases). The proposed edition allows access to new versions of packages developed for the OpenMandriva Lx 5.0 branch. A 2.6 GB iso image has been prepared for download with a KDE desktop that supports booting in Live mode.
Of the new package versions in the OpenMandriva Lx ROME build, the kernel is 5.18.12 (built with Clang), Python 3.11, Java 20, KDE Frameworks 5.96.0, Plasma Desktop 5.25.3 and KDE Gear 22.04.2. The file system structure has been reorganized - all executable files and libraries from the root directories have been moved to the /usr partition (the /bin, /sbin and /lib* directories are designed as symbolic links to the corresponding directories inside /usr). Support for installation on partitions with BTRFS and XFS file systems has been resumed. In addition to the default dnf4 file manager, dnf5 and zypper are suggested as alternatives.
