openSUSE developers voted against changing the project name

Summed up results of voting on changing the name of the openSUSE distribution. The vast majority of openSUSE developers (225 to 42) voted against the name change. 54% of developers with voting rights took part in the voting.

Let us remind you that the issue of changing the name was raised in preparation for the creation of an independent non-profit organization to oversee the development of the openSUSE distribution. The reasons for the need to change the name were the intersection of the openSUSE name with the SUSE brand (a special agreement on the transfer of rights to use the SUSE brand is required), confusion with the case of letters (openSUSE, OpenSuSe, etc. are often written instead of openSUSE) and negative attitude of the Open Source Foundation to the use of the word β€œopen” in the title (application the term β€œopen” instead of β€œfree”).
