Larian Studios has announced the suspension of development of the tactical role-playing game Divinity: Fallen Heroes, a story-driven offshoot of the Divinity: Original Sin series.

Announcement project took place in March of this year. Then we learned that the development was entrusted to the Danish studio Logic Artists: the goal was to cross the tactical RPG component of Original Sin with a deep narrative and an extensive system of story choices from Dragon Commander. β€œLast year we handed over the engine Divinity: Original Sin II to developers at Logic Artists to see where it leads, Larian Studios said in a statement at the time. β€œTheir goal was to develop a game where your decisions would affect which missions you can complete, and their completion would in turn affect subsequent narrative options.”

Alas, the plans did not materialize. It is announced that Fallen Heroes will require "much more development time and resources than currently available". Larian Studios itself is busy Baldur's Gate 3, so the Logic Artists team is not able to help. Well, the Danes, instead of focusing on one game, distributed their forces between the continuation of the Expeditions series, some new project that has not yet been announced, and Divinity: Fallen Heroes. As a result, there was no time left for the latter.

"It's always sad to put off an exciting project, but sometimes the realities of development and release schedules are out of your control," Logic Artists said in a statement. β€œIt has been an incredible honor for us to work with Larian and their Divinity brand. Everyone in our studio is amazed at how responsive and friendly Larian has been throughout the project."

Release Divinity: Fallen Heroes was planned at the end of this year. However, we still have a chance to see the game someday. In a statement, Larian Studios specifically emphasizes that the project is not canceled or closed, but simply frozen: "We firmly believe that Fallen Heroes should be made available to fans in a time frame that will ensure smooth, high-quality development."
