Samsung may ditch the use of ultrasonic fingerprint scanners in future smartphones due to security concerns, The Korea Times reported.

Samsung may ditch the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner in future smartphones

Samsung first used the Qualcomm 3D Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner in its flagship Galaxy S10 and Note 10 smartphones, which has been reported to be faster, more secure and more reliable than other scanners. However, this turned out not to be the case, as the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series smartphones have been criticized more than once due to the slowness of the fingerprint scanner.

Moreover, a serious vulnerability was discovered in the fingerprint recognition system of smartphones, due to which banks in several countries temporarily disabled support for mobile applications and the Samsung Pay payment service for these smartphones.
