Student Talks: Analytics. Beginner Materials

On April 25, we held the next meetup Avito Student Talks, this time it was dedicated to analytics: career path, Data Science and product analytics. After the meeting, we thought that her materials might be of interest to the widest audience and decided to share them. The post contains video recordings of reports, presentations from speakers, feedback from listeners and, of course, a photo report.

Student Talks: Analytics. Beginner Materials

Reports

Data analyst career development. Vyacheslav Fomenkov, head of C2C cluster analytics Avito

Vyacheslav Fomenkov spoke about who analysts are, what is the difference between BI and Data Scientist, what is the career trajectory of analysts and what skills are needed at each stage: from Junior to Senior +.

Presentation

Who will benefit from the report: those who want to start their journey in analytics and chart a career path. Inside there are links to educational materials and technologies that you need to learn.

The introductory report set the tone for the meeting and helped to orientate in the terminology. It was amazing to learn how important communication skills are for an analyst.

Machine Learning in moderation. Pavel Gladkov, Head of Analytics, Avito Moderation Unit

A report on the tasks that the automatic moderation team in Avito solves, and on the machine learning technologies that we use. Pavel talked about how to measure the health of models using analytics and monitoring tools.

Presentation

Who will benefit from the report: those who are interested in machine learning. The report was built without a strong bias in mathematics, but it turned out to be very useful and descriptive.

It was extremely educational! I am seriously thinking about taking part in an internship in this direction. It was interesting and, I think, accessible to people outside the direction, and informative for those who are already in the direction.

Product analytics. George Apatic Fandeev, Senior Analyst

A report on what product analytics is and how it works. How we analyze new features and understand whether they are worth rolling. What is the difference between AB tests and case studies and who decides how the product will develop.

Presentation

Who will benefit from the report: those who want to develop in product analytics and be at the forefront of working with business data.

It was very interesting and informative. I liked the initiative of interaction with the public. It has become even more interesting to get to know the topic of DA more deeply, although I think to move towards DS.
