Taiwan Partner PocketBook Global Confirms E Ink Color Plans

A month ago, at the regular reporting conference, the management of E Ink Holdings (EIH) declassified information on the development of a whole range of book readers on E Ink color screens. In the past, the company has not been able to create a color electrophoretic display that would make you want to quickly drop everything and buy a "reader" with a color screen. Screens made using E Ink Triton technology displayed a very poor color gamut.

According to E Ink, as we reported in the news for 22 November, 2020 will be the year of the large-scale release of book readers on color screens. Now this information is confirmed by the Taiwanese company Netronix, which, along with Foxconn, is the leading ODM manufacturer of e-books on E Ink screens. Moreover, Netronix is also a co-founder of PocketBook Global. This international company was established in January 2010 together with the Ukrainian PocketBook to promote book readers to Western markets.

The day before, according to a Taiwanese Internet resource DigiTimes, Netronix CTO CM Lin said color eBooks will be shipped to customers in Europe, the US, Japan and China in the second half of 2020. We can expect that these will be new models under the PocketBook brand. Also at the end of 2020 or at the beginning of 2021, the company will start deliveries of electronic notepads with color screens. In fact, these are the same readers, only with handwriting recognition and large screens.

Like E Ink representatives, Netronix management did not reveal the secret of what technology will be used in the new generation of color e-book readers. It remains to be hoped that this will be a new development of E Ink - ACeP technology with an electrophoretic suspension in cells of conditionally printing dyes. These screens work without color overlays and show brighter colors than E Ink Triton. But the announcement by Netronix that the new color screens will combine color filters and printing "electronic" ink is alarming. The latest leak we told in the news below, talks about E Ink's development of new Print-Color screens.

If these are indeed new color screens, they are not far from E Ink Triton screens, which means that bright colors on paper-like screens will still remain an unattainable dream. We are waiting for new details.
