The 17th release of the browser took place on May 59 Thorium, based on Chromium 124.0.6367.218 source code.
Major changes:
- support for audio in AC3/E-AC3 format has been restored;
- WebRTC can now use H.265/HEVC codecs. Unlike Chromium, in Thorium this feature is available even without hardware decoding;
- a patch was used to protect against digital fingerprinting;
- flag added chrome://flags#side-panel-journeys to enable/disable Journeys in the sidebar, which can be annoying;
- flag added show-component-extension-options to enable/disable the display of built-in internal extensions that are usually hidden;
- Sidebar customization now works even if the flag is disabled chrome-refresh-2023;
- added --disable-thorium-dns-config command line flag to disable the DNS configuration used in Thorium (by default, two patches are used to make DNS queries more private and use DNS over HTTPS (DoH));
- FTP support restored;
- vulnerability fixed CVE-2024-4671.
The browser is available for download in deb, rpm, AppImage and zip formats in several variations - with optimizations for various processors (SSE3, SSE4, AVX, AVX2).
