The Central Bank of the Russian Federation warned about a new method of fraud in social networks

Victims believe messages in which the interlocutor asks for financial assistance and transfers their money to the attacker. In 97% of cases, this is because scammers get access to the account of friends and acquaintances of the victim and write on his behalf.

However, representatives of the older generation, when they see messages like “Mom, I’m in trouble, please throw off the money ...”, they already react more wary, since over the years they have developed a certain immunity. And still, not every one of them has large amounts on cards or the skills necessary to make cashless transfers.

So now the victims are mostly people aged 30-45 years. According to the Central Bank, 65% of them are women. Their level of trust in Internet technologies and communication in social networks is much higher.

True, they are sometimes deceived over the phone: in this case, the attackers present themselves as employees of banks and other organizations with a high level of trust. For better reliability, scammers can even use a phone number substitution to look like a bank number. So, through the efforts of fraudsters in 2018, bank customers lost 1,4 billion rubles, the Central Bank calculated.
