Earlier this year, Intel introduced one of its most unusual and expensive desktop processors, the Core i9-9990XE. The novelty turned out to be unusual not only in its characteristics, we will recall them below, but also in the distribution method: Intel sells this processor at closed auctions to a limited circle of desktop computer manufacturers. However, the fairly well-known store CaseKing.de decided to offer the Core i9-9990XE as a separate product.

A German store specializing in high-performance computers and accessories for them, today began retail sales of the Core i9-9990XE processor. The novelty, unique in its kind, was estimated by the seller at a very considerable 2999 euros. At the time of writing this news, the processor is still in stock and can be ordered. Naturally, the novelty is offered in the Tray version, that is, without a cooling system, and most likely without a beautiful factory packaging.

Recall that the Core i9-9990XE processor is made in the LGA 2066 package and is designed for use in motherboards with the Intel X299 chipset. This chip has 14 cores with 28 threads. The key feature of the processor is its clock speed: up to 5,1 GHz in Boost mode for a single core, and up to 5,0 GHz for all cores. The base frequency is 4,0 GHz. Such high frequencies led to an increase in TDP to as much as 255 watts. For comparison, the 18-core Core i9-9980XE has a TDP of "only" 165W.

Note that the Core i9-9990XE is currently both the most expensive Intel Core processor and one of the most expensive desktop processors in general. The related 18-core processor Core i9-9980XE has a MSRP of $1979, and you can buy it in the same German store for 2149 euros. And the 28-core Xeon W-3175X, also designed for desktop systems, but in a slightly different class, is sold at CaseKing for 3999 euros.
