Adobe Premiere will have a function to automatically adjust the width and height of the video for different formats

To fit the video to different aspect ratio options, you have to work hard. Just changing the project settings from widescreen to square will not give the desired result: therefore, you will have to manually move frames, center them if necessary, so that visual effects and the picture as a whole are displayed correctly in the new screen aspect ratios. Such manipulations can take several hours.

However, soon Adobe Premiere Pro will solve this problem more elegantly. At the International Broadcasting Conference (IBC 2019), the developers of the video editor presented the Auto Reframe feature for formats with different sizes and aspect ratios. This will significantly reduce the time for preparing videos for various platforms.

If, for example, you need to prepare the same video for YouTube (16:9 format) and for Instagram (square format), Auto Reframe will take care of this work. To do this, the user just needs to make a couple of mouse manipulations.

The implementation of the new feature was made possible thanks to Adobe Sensei, an engine based on AI and machine learning algorithms. Sensei analyzes the video and generates key frames based on it - events that correspond to certain points in time. Then, when the aspect ratio changes, it redraws all the others based on keyframes. The user can tweak keyframes using the fine-tune tool.

Moreover, Auto Reframe performs appropriate transformations on the text, which is often present on the video. Thus, the time of working on the video is reduced to a few minutes.

The Adobe Sensei automation mechanism is implemented in all Creative Cloud products, which have recently been increasingly focused on mobile platforms and social networks. For example, the company recently released a free mobile version of Premiere Pro called Premiere Rush CC. The developers, in particular, have added special video export settings for active users of YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Auto Reframe will be coming to Adobe Premiere Pro later this year.
