AMD may take up to 25% of the desktop processor market this year

Experts like to operate with indicators of AMD's market share in the server processor segment, since it is in this area that the company has set itself a clear goal - to overcome the ten percent milestone in the second quarter of this year. At the best of times, AMD products formed up to 25% of all desktop processors sold, and the company's management sees no reason why this maximum cannot be updated in the foreseeable future. Some third-party experts are sure that this will happen at the end of this year or the beginning of next.

AMD may take up to 25% of the desktop processor market this year

With the advent of 2020, AMD shares resumed growth, fueled by optimistic forecasts from stock analysts. Specialists Rosenblatt, in particular, cite the beneficial impact on AMD's revenue of the new game consoles from Sony and Microsoft, which will enter the market in the second half of the year. The authors of the analytical note also refer to the absence of serious competitive threats to further strengthen AMD's market position this year. They expect the company's share price to rise to $65.

Experts Nomura Instinet AMD share price target raised to $58. Analysts are convinced that throughout 2020, the company will be able to bring new products to market using both the first and second generation of 7-nm technology in a “uniform flow”. For example, mobile 7nm processors will be introduced in January, and consumer desktop processors will appear before the end of the year, using the so-called “7nm +” process with ultra-hard ultraviolet (EUV) lithography elements. The GPU segment will also not be forgotten by AMD when updating the lineup.

According to Nomura Instinet, by the end of 2020, AMD will be able to take from 20% to 25% of the desktop processor market. At the end of the third quarter of last year, based on statistics from Mercury Research, this figure reached 18%. Thus, next year AMD has every chance to update the historical maximum in terms of market positions in the desktop processor segment.
