We are talking about the exchange of data collected by "smart" tires with other cars in the stream. The transmission of information will be organized through a 5G network, which will ensure minimum delays and high throughput - characteristics that are extremely important in conditions of heavy traffic.

The system was demonstrated at The 5G Path of Vehicle-to-Everything Communication event hosted by the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA). Ericsson, Audi, Tim, Italdesign and KTH also took part in the project.

The platform provides for the use of Pirelli Cyber Tire tires with integrated sensors. During the demonstration, the information collected by these sensors was used to generate warnings of possible hydroplaning for motorists moving behind.

In the future, sensors in tires will be able to inform the on-board computer about the condition of tires, mileage, dynamic loads, etc. These readings will optimize the operation of a wide variety of systems in order to increase traffic safety. In addition, part of the data will be transmitted to other road users connected to the network.
