The company confirmed the layoffs after many of the affected employees discussed the job cuts on Twitter. It is not clear how many people were affected, although reddit thread, dedicated to this topic, suggest that the Planetside 2 and Planetside Arena teams were most affected.

"We are taking steps to improve our business and support the long-term vision of existing franchises and the development of new games," the company said in a statement. β€œThis will include reorganizing the company into separate franchise teams, allowing us to highlight their expertise, better showcase the games they work on, and ultimately provide a customized experience for our players. […] Unfortunately, some employees have been affected by these measures and we are doing our best to support them during this difficult time.”

Layoffs at the Z1 Battle Royale (formerly known as H1Z1) developer studio are not uncommon, as it turns out. In December, Daybreak Game Company said goodbye to about 70 employees. Before that, she lost several people in April last year. The studio was once called Sony Online Entertainment, but in February 2015 it bought out independent investor and renamed Daybreak Game Company.
