Dell Technologies, Intel and the University of Cambridge have announced a jointly developed supercomputer, Dawn, in the UK. The launch will be carried out in two stages. The first will be completed within two months, that is, before the end of the year. The second phase, which will be completed in 2024, will increase Dawn's productivity tenfold and will be completed next year. Detailed specifications for Dawn will be announced at SC23 this month. The Dawn supercomputer is installed at the Cambridge Open Zettascale Lab. According to Dell, this will be the most powerful supercomputing AI cloud based on OpenStack, developed jointly with the British SME StackHPC. The machine uses Dell PowerEdge XE9640 servers with Sapphire Rapids processors and Max accelerators. In total, more than 1 thousand accelerators are used.
