In 1982, director Ridley Scott delighted the world with the film Blade Runner. This is a cult SF film that showed viewers a dark and disturbing future - November 2019.
Now we can compare what was shown in the film and what we have now. This is about technology, not Blade Runner's political, social or economic model.
Of course, speaking about Blade Runner, first of all it is worth mentioning replicants - “synthetic people” who, in general, were no different from their prototypes, surpassing them in some ways.
So, this is what replicants should be like according to the filmmakers.

And this is what we have now. This is the Sophia robot.

If you want to know more about the robot, then here is an “interview” with him, or rather, with her.

Advances in science, primarily genetics, should have led to the creation of replicants. Scientists of our time are making very significant discoveries, but modern technologies have not yet reached the level shown in the film.
In almost all countries, human experiments are prohibited. So far, only one Chinese scientist has gone against the bans, who genetically modified three children. Using CRISPR technology, he tried to create people invulnerable to HIV and even announced his intention to open a clinic whose staff .

Plus, Blade Rinner is full of flying cars. Now they are gradually turning from concept into reality, but there is no talk of any significant breakthrough. Flying taxis are planned, delivery drones are being introduced, but this is not quite the future that was shown in Blade Runner.

Blade Runner showed existing and thriving colonies in space. We are now about the same distance from realizing this idea as we were in 1982. Yes, some work is being done, the idea of creating colonies on other planets is being promoted by Elon Musk and other enthusiasts. But even on the Moon there is no permanent base for astronauts, let alone colonies. And if such a base appears, it will not be earlier than in 15-20 years.

Technology that allows you to see around corners. Blade Runner had such a gadget. With its help, it was possible not only to significantly improve the quality of the picture, but also to see what is out of focus, and what is there - outside the frame.

Glowing umbrellas. Well, this is a technology that has already appeared, yes. But it can hardly be called a breakthrough.

As a conclusion, we can say that most of the things that were shown in the film are missing now. So far, only a small fraction of the technologies from Blade Runner have been implemented. Good or bad, it's hard to say, but the singularity is still out there somewhere.

What technologies that were shown in Blade Runner would you like to see in real life?
