GNU screen 4.8.0 console window manager released

Available release of a full-screen console window manager (terminal multiplexer) GNU screen 4.8.0, which allows you to use one physical terminal to work with several applications, which are allocated separate virtual terminals that remain active between different user sessions.

Among changes:

  • Eliminated memory corruption that, under certain conditions, can cause 768 bytes to be overwritten outside of the buffer. An overflow occurs while processing the OSC 49 escape sequence (echo -e "\e]49\e; ... \n\ec"). The problem can be considered as a dangerous potential vulnerability, exploited through the output of a certain sequence in the terminal, but the possibility of exploitation has not yet been confirmed;
  • Startup is accelerated by checking only already open files;
  • Fixed a crash that occurs if the Km entry is not specified in the termcap file;
  • When called with the "--version" option, a zero exit code is output.
