Phosh 0.53, a mobile desktop environment based on GNOME technologies and the GTK library, has been released. Initially developed by Purism as a GNOME Shell alternative for the Librem 5 smartphone, the environment has since become an unofficial GNOME project and is used in postmarketOS, Mobian, Droidian, some firmware versions for Pine64 devices, and the Fedora edition for smartphones. Phosh uses the Phoc composite server running on Wayland and a custom on-screen keyboard. The project's work is licensed under the GPLv3+ license.

Among the changes:
- Automatic screen brightness adjustment has been improved. Night mode mode is now taken into account when selecting brightness. The user-set adjustment to the automatic brightness setting is now remembered.
- The design of the overview mode used for switching between active applications has been improved. Thumbnails of running applications are now displayed.
- Expanded user information displayed when prompted for permission to perform privileged operations.
- Allowed opening plugin settings from the status page.
- Into composite server Phoc added support for the xx-cutouts-v1 Wayland protocol for retrieving information about screen cutouts (e.g., for the front-facing camera). The ability to cycle through windows on the desktop was added. Applications, such as games, are now allowed to remain in full-screen mode after switching focus.
- The Stevia on-screen keyboard supports scaling of the input area and key icons to use the entire horizontal space when working in landscape mode or on large screens.

- The phosh-mobile-settings configurator has a new system information panel and added support for customizing sound feedback.
- xdg-desktop-portal-phosh uses the new release of the ASHPD (Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device) framework and drops support for C-based desktop wallpaper and file selection portals.
- Updated gmobile, a set of handlers for running GNOME on mobile devices.
- Updated dependency versions: callaudiod 0.1.10, Calls 49.1.1, cellbroadcastd 0.0.3, feedbackd 0.8.9, feedbackd-device-themes 0.8.8, GNOME 49, iio-sensor-proxy 3.7, mmsd-tng 2.6.4, ModemManager 1.25.95, wlroots 0.19.2, and wys 0.1.12.
