Budgie uses the Budgie Window Manager (BWM) to manage windows, which is an extension of the core Mutter plugin. Budgie is based on a panel that is similar in organization to the classic desktop panels. All panel elements are applets, which allows you to flexibly customize the composition, change the layout and replace the implementations of the main panel elements to your liking. Available applets include the classic application menu, task switcher, open window list area, virtual desktop view, power management indicator, volume control applet, system status indicator, and clock.
Main improvements:
- Added settings for font smoothing and hinting to the configurator. You can choose between sub-pixel anti-aliasing, grayscale anti-aliasing, and turning off font anti-aliasing;
- Compatibility with components of the GNOME 3.34 stack is ensured, for example, changes in the organization of the background settings management process are taken into account. GNOME versions supported by Budgie are 3.30, 3.32, and 3.34;
- In the panel, when you hover over the icons of running applications, pop-up tips with information about the contents of the open window are displayed;
- Added support for predefined virtual desktops created when Budgie starts up, and added an option to settings to specify the number of default virtual desktops to offer. Previously, virtual desktops could only be created dynamically through a special applet, and at startup, one desktop was always created;
- Added new CSS classes to modify certain desktop components in skins: icon-popover, night-light-indicator class, mpris-widget, raven-mpris-controls, raven-notifications-view, raven-header, do-not-disturb , clear-all-notifications, raven-notifications-group, notification-clone and no-album-art.
