The NetBSD project developers released the pkgsrc-2024Q4 package repository, marking the project's 85th release. Pkgsrc supports 23 platforms, including AIX, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, DragonFlyBSD, HP-UX, Haiku, and IRIX. Linux, QNX, and UnixWare. The system was created in 1997 based on FreeBSD ports and is currently used by default to manage the application collection in NetBSD and Minix. pkgsrc is used as an additional package source by Solaris/illumos users and macOS.
The repository offers more than 20 thousand packages. Compared to the previous release, 110 packages were added, 33 packages were removed, 1580 packages were updated, including 24 related to the Go language, 3 to OCaml, 66 to Perl, 5 to PHP, 626 to Python, 282 to Ruby, and 44 to TeX.
New packages MinGW-w64 14.2.0, OpenSMTPD Tables, Python 3.13, Ruby On Rails 7.2.2.1 and Thunderbird 115 are offered. Packages with old branches Firefox 102, PostgreSQL 12, Python 3.8 and Thunderbird 102 are removed.
The mktool toolkit has been added to the build infrastructure, providing alternative implementations of various mk scripts that demonstrate higher performance (speedup from 5 to 500 times).
