Alphabet startup Wing will launch its first commercial drone delivery service in Canberra, Australia.
The company announced this on Tuesday in a blog post after receiving approval from the Australian Civil Safety Authority (CASA). A CASA spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider that the regulator has approved the launch of the drone delivery service following successful testing. According to him, "it is quite likely" that this service will be the first in the world.
Wing has been testing drone delivery in Canberra for about 18 months, making 3000 deliveries. After the official launch, the service will be available to a limited number of homes in the Canberra area before gradually expanding the geography. CASA says it will initially serve 100 households.
